Indiana Physicians To Be Graded
More than 750 physicians throughout Indiana will have their quality scores posted on the Indiana Health Information Exchange as part of an effort to provide greater provider transparency.
The data on the physicians will be posted on the exchange's Quality Health First Program's website. The physicians will be rated on a variety of measures, including the treatment of diabetes, congestive heart failure, and other chronic conditions.
“QHF was developed as a tool to help physicians manage and monitor the care provided to patients with chronic diseases,” said Harold J. Apple, the IHIE's chief executive officer. “Reporting these quality scores is a significant milestone for physician practices seeking to demonstrate their commitment to improving the quality of care provided to patients.”
One of the biggest participants in the reporting will be the American Health Network, which has nearly 200 primary care physicians practicing in Indiana.
“Reporting the quality measures can only improve the cooperation between patient and physician to follow through on recommended care and improve the health of the people we serve,” said Ben Park, M.D., chief executive officer of American Health Network of Indiana.
The QHF Program began in 2008 as a collaborative effort between IHIE and the Employers’ Forum, the Indiana Network for Patient Care, and healthcare provider groups, among others.
