Covered California Works With Medical Organizations

The Covered California health insurance exchange is making one final push to boost enrollment by trying to get more Latinos and Asian-Americans to obtain health insurance coverage.

Covered California has teamed up with two medical organizations: The National Council of Asian Pacific Islander Physicians and the National Hispanic Medical Association. Both organizations sent letters to their membership that included tips on how to get their patients enrolled in insurance coverage. Both Asians and Latinos are underinsured in California compared to whites.

“Their voices help us highlight the importance of the open-enrollment period and our shared goal of getting as many Californians health insurance coverage as possible. They have been invaluable partners to Covered California during this process,” said Covered California Executive Director Peter V. Lee.

Altogether, there are about 750,000 Californians who lack insurance who can obtain commercial coverage through the exchange, and another 1.4 million residents eligible for coverage through Medi-Cal.
