The California Department of Public Health has confirmed that the number of hospital inspectors in the state’s most populous county will increase dramatically in the coming months.

A CDPH spokesperson has confirmed that  50 new hospital inspectors in Los Angeles County have been hired and are in various stages of the approximately six-month training process. Another 11 would-be inspectors are in the process of being hired.

According to the CDPH, 25 of the inspectors currently undergoing their training will be “field effective” by April 1.

The hiring was spurred by an additional $14.5 million in the state’s 2015-16 for CDPH’s contract with the Los Angeles County Health Facilities Inspection Division, according to the CDPH.

The CDPH was unable to say how many hospital inspectors are currently working in L.A. County.
