CDPH Grants Nearly $2 Million To Address Native American Mental Health
The California Department of Public Health said it would grant nearly $2 million to help address mental health disparities among Native Americans.
The grant, provided by a special program of CDPH aimed at reducing healthcare disparities, will go to the California Rural Indian Health Board, an advocacy group for the state's Native Americans.
“CDPH recognizes that many of the promising mental health services in our most diverse communities need additional support in order to improve their effectiveness,” said CDPH Director Karen Smith, M.D. “The department is committed to funding organizations that are doing meaningful work in their communities to reduce mental health disparities among groups of people who have historically been underserved.”
The reducing disparities initiative is funded through Proposition 63, a tax on high-income Californians. It focuses on healthcare issues prevalent in the minority and LGBTQ communities.
